On Tues, Oct. 7, I wrote my favorite article yet.
It is fitting then that the article was picked up by The Skyline to run, my first real byline! The story was so much fun to write because it revolved around a simple search: Who is this guy?!
Mr. John Joseph Polachek is an enigma. His stance on the issues turned up a blank. The address that he used to register his name on the ballot revealed little, other than that it was located in Rogers Park, but so were the other two addresses I found for his name.
What I found most fascinating about this is that he went to the trouble of getting his forms notarized, but didn’t try to get a single signature, not even his own! When I found this much, I thought that surely he must be making some kind of grand statement about ballot access in the state of Illinois. Usually third party candidates are craving attention for their campaigns, but this man has obviously no intention of doing anything with his candidacy. Now, I wonder if maybe this is part of a “Bucket List” type of goal.
Alas, I’m still searching for Mr. Polachek. I heard a rumor from someone in the IL State Board of Elections that he might be a cab driver, so I’ve been working from there. If anyone out there happens to jump in the candidate’s cab, let me know!
